The train station in Flöha was opened in 1866. In the 1990s, the train station building was closed and has since been increasingly subjected to decay. In preparation for the European Capital of Culture 2025, the train station is undergoing renovation and being transformed into an art space. With the support of Deutsche Bahn and the municipality of Flöha, the project titled „Glance“ has been realized. Two wall paintings, each over 100 meters long, have been created in the underpass and the entrances to the railway platforms. The project consists of 38 colored panels with motifs that rhythmically repeat. In total, 178 panels measuring 170 x 120 cm have been installed. These panels represent 38 municipalities that, along with Chemnitz, form the cultural region that will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025. The „PURPLE PATH,“ a major sculpture, art, and creator’s path and flagship of the Capital of Culture, will be developed in the region by 2025 and beyond.
